You Can’t Pick Your Parents

Spanning from a cold Albany orphanage in the 1950s to the jungles of Vietnam, the theaters of Manhattan, and a haunted farmhouse in Virginia, this is the story of Zach Baldwin and the secret of his true parentage. A sweeping novel about generational trauma, the things our parents hide to protect us, and how a buried past gathers force until it surfaces. The wounds we inherit, and what it costs to break the cycle.

God's Seed

Coming Soon

God’s Seed is a generation-ship / seed-ship novel in the tradition of Aurora (KSR), Children of Time, and Hull Three — but its real DNA is closer to a moral-philosophical novel wearing science fiction’s clothes. The title points straight at it: humanity scattering its “seed” to a new world, and the theological weight of playing creator (“God didn’t take a day off and leave me in charge”).

About

A writer reaching outward.

Jonathan Parizer is a novelist and screenwriter whose life has been shaped by movement, reinvention, and a lasting devotion to storytelling.

After leaving Dublin School in Dublin, New Hampshire, just two weeks before graduation in 1972, he set out for Boston, where he immersed himself in the world of international cuisine and discovered the discipline, creativity, and cultural richness of cooking.

His path later led him to the Harvard School of Public Health, followed by years of geographic exploration across the United States, including an influential period in Southern California. Eventually, Jonathan settled in Washington, D.C., where the idea of becoming a writer began to take hold with new seriousness and purpose.

Returning to New Haven, Connecticut, the city of his birth, Jonathan began what he describes as “growing where he was planted.” He earned his degree from Southern Connecticut State University in 1999, completing what he fondly calls his “twenty-five-year plan.” He later studied playwriting in the Graduate Liberal Studies Program at Wesleyan University, further sharpening his voice as a dramatist and storyteller.

Alongside his creative work, Jonathan spent many years in behavioral healthcare, working with clients facing co-morbidity and complex life challenges. That experience deepened his understanding of human struggle, resilience, humor, and transformation—themes that continue to inform his fiction and screenwriting.

Over the years, Jonathan has written several screenplays and developed a distinctive narrative style rooted in curiosity, compassion, and imagination. He is currently at work on his second novel, God’s Seed: The Space Adventure, a story that reflects his lifelong fascination with journeys both earthly and cosmic.

For Jonathan Parizer, writing is not simply a profession; it is the natural result of a life fully lived, widely traveled, and deeply observed.
